Matthew A. Watkins: Life Story

Mr. Matthew A. Watkins (1976-), born in the USA, a US citizen by birth and British by Descent, is the firstborn child and only son of the Late Naval LT Rev Prof Allen G. Watkins, USNR, and hereditary heiress, Ms. Barbara Traxler.

Matthew is the third-generation American born paternally from England, and all three generations are USA military veterans; his father and grandfather were wartime military officers. Going further back, his British-born forefathers also served in the British Merchant Navy from Trafalgar to WWI as master mariners and warrant officers. See the page for more about his Watkins’ fathers.

Matthew is also the third-generation American from his maternal line of Butler-Deacon of England, whose family also served in the British Navy during WWI and WWII. He is also a maternal descendant of many historical families from his maternal grandfather of South Carolina. See the Traxler webpage for more about his maternal forefathers.

During the 1980s, young Matt spent many summers with his paternal grandparents in Tampa Bay, FL. His grandfather, Col. George had made public news in 1989 for a new type of heart surgery operation, and in the 1992 elections for his opinion comments. His grandfather Col. George died in 1996, while his SC maternal grandfather died in 1994.

Matt graduated early as a junior from high school while in Dallas, Texas. During his school days, there was an unfortunate situation with an older female schoolteacher, which was a major public news story at the time from 1990 to 1995.

In late 1999, Matt became injured during a training exercise while in the US Army. He spent time in the Army hospital, fighting to survive. He was visited at the Army hospital bedside by his Army Company Captain, the hospital administrator Colonel, and the Base Commanding General. He received a medical discharge from military service. He is now a service-connected disabled veteran and member of DAV.

After Matt’s military medical discharge, he went back to college, earning a BA degree in English and an MPA from the University of Texas System. He then worked for some time as an insurance and securities broker. Since 2016, Matt has been working in the technology field, earning further degrees in software development and computer programming while in Florida.

Matt’s interests are the arts, history, technology, languages (including AI), and world travel. His hobbies are as a historian and genealogist. He enjoys warm weather and good friends. His recreations are road bicycling and martial arts. His native language is English, but he is knowledgeable in other languages.
